Campania offers wines for every palate and pocket
Campania is one of Italy’s most beautiful regions and it is a tourist destination like few other spots in the world: the Amalfi and Sorrento Coasts, Ischia, Capri, Pompei, Caserta with its world-famous Reggia (where part of Star Wars: the Phantom Menace was shot) are just some of the drop-dead gorgeous places to visit and take in both the natural and man-made beauty. Add to that some of the best food Italy has to offer (of all the regional cuisines of Italy, Campania’s is easily among the top half dozen or so) and wines for every pocket and palate, and sybarites have a field day when visiting the region. Light whites, fuller-bodied whites, light easygoing reds, and full-bodied age-worthy reds are everywhere in Campania, thanks to a plethora of native grapes few other regions can boast anywhere. And while a few (Fiano, Greco, Aglianico) are becoming international varieties in their own right given that their value has now been recognized such that they are now getting planted from Australia to California to South Africa, fact is there are many other cultivars (Coda di Volpe Bianca, the two Falanghinas, others…) typical of Campania that deserve your and everybody else’s attention, as do their wines.
