Like in any good story or play, it’s the characters that make it interesting and worth repeating; or remembering, for that matter.
In the case of Barolo’s Bussia vineyard district, the main actors are some of the most important in Barolo’s recent history: Aldo Conterno for sure, but also Alfredo Prunotto and Beppe Colla. In both the cases of Aldo Conterno and the dynamic duo of Prunotto and Colla, it is a tale of very talented individuals who knew the Bussia area extremely well. And while it is only honest to recognize that Aldo Conterno first, and later his family, have done the most to establish the name of Bussia as one of the world’s greatest vineyard sites, there is no doubt that it all started with Alfred Prunotto and Beppe Colla. Without whose passion, insight and capacity to think outside the box, Bussia would not, most likely, be the Bussia we know and love.

In fact, theirs is very much a story worth remembering.
