Argiano is a famous Montalcino wine estate best-known for its delicious and age-worthy Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino wines. However, it is also singularly famous for its unique Solengo wine, a Toscana Rosso wine that is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon-based. In other words, a Supertuscan wine made with international varieties. There are only a few such wines still being made in the Montalcino area, most of them deservingly biting the dust long ago: and that’s not by accident, seeing as the majority of such attempts were very poor, besides futile. I mean, let’s call a spade a spade: you are lucky enough to be sitting in the middle of one of the two best places on the planet in which to grow Sangiovese, and what do you do? Plant Cabernet Sauvignon? Good luck with that.
