The dishes

Scallop and shrimp ceviche (avocado, red onion, cilantro, mint, lemongrass-pineapple dressing, yellow corn tortilla chips)

Hibachi wings (mary’s chicken, spice rubbed, parmesan dip)

Steak frites (6 oz. cut, garlic butter, rocket greens, preserved cherry tomatoes, fries)

Individually baked apple pie (hand-folded pastry, toasted almonds, tahitian vanilla ice cream)

Not all restaurants emanating the coolest of vibes are always worthy of their forks and spoons. Some look beautiful, but the food and the wines are anything to write home about. Happily, this is not the case with Joey Uptown in Houston, a large restaurant with a sleek, rather designer-ish inside dining area and a just as pretty and comfortable partly veranda-like outside temperature-controlled patio area. The restaurant is large, and at least this specific weekend lunchtime, amazingly packed with people (with others waiting in line for a table). Therefore, I guess it’s more than appropriate, given all the happy patrons, that Joey Uptown also features a Happy Hour (from 3-6PM) on weekdays. But it’s worth noting that, for all the people and tables, the place allows you to talk with your dining companion and hear what she or he are saying, as the acoustics are really excellent. The food is solidly prepared and the wine list competent, so it all adds up to a very nice spot in which to have lunch.
