The ‘Sawasdee, Khun May’ at the bottom of our menu sets the tone early at Nusara in Bangkok, a one-star eatery that easily deserves two. Then again I don’t know who Mr. May is, but I think that was an unfortunate error typical of the “lost in translation” lifestyle of westerners living in Asia, where our foreign names don’t register quite as clearly with the locals. Clearly, theirs don’t register with us, so it’s all par for the course: what really counts is the sharing of experiences, the broadening of cultures, the making of new friends, and learning new things. And so, “Sawasdee, Khun…” to all my faithful readers (that means “Good morning or good afternoon or good evening , Mr. or Mrs. …”). Nusara really is a restaurant of good cheer, beginning with the thoughtful kitchen visit to meet and say hi to the staff, all followed by an amazing drinking and eating experience. To be crystal-clear, I have no doubts that come December, Nusara will register as one of my five best dinner meals of the year. The place is really that good.
