I doubt you’ll ever dine in a more laid-back two Michelin-star restauarant than Trivet in London. “The Working People’s Two-Star Address” may be a bit tongue in cheek as far as titles go, but the jist of it is correct: Trivet is about as unfussy in just about everything it does as they come.

Founded by Jonny Lake and Isa Bal in London’s hip and happening Bermondsey quartiere, an evening at Trivet begins with the look: a plain, easy-going but clean and architecturally pleasing outside appearance gives way to an interior that is almost spartan but comfortable, unpressurized and ‘unclutterized’ (allow me the neologism, for it rhymes). It’s the sort of place that will drive the Instagram-social media photo-taking hordes to do something dire with their swizzle sticks, but so be it, and hopefully they won’t go into photo-less abstinence seizures while you’re dining the same night they pretend to be doing the same. A friend described Trivet as ‘understated and unassuming’: I couldn’t have said or written it better myself, so I’ll repeat his words here. If to dine out is all about having fun rather than sitting in some faux-temple of pseudo-high gastronomy boring yourself to death the whole time that you’re doing it, then at Trivet they got the recipe right.
