The Merchants is one of Shanghai’s most successful restaurants, one that combines aspects of fine dining and bistro cuisine remarkably well. Its “Shared Table” series is built around culinary dialogue across regions. On the evening of 6 August, 2026, a trio of outstanding restaurants, The Merchants, Penang’s Au Jardin, and Bali’s Locavore NXT came together for a six-hands dinner structured around three of the Five Elements: “Metal → Water → Wood.”
