You could subtitle this restaurant review by paraphrasing Dickens and call it “A Tale of Two Visits”. That is because Dickens, or his memory, has ties to the pub I recently visited during a London work pit stop.
The George Southwark, or perhaps better The George on Borough High Street in Southwark, is an historic London pub in the true sense of that word. To know it by its long name is essential, because otherwise you run the risk of confusing this specific place with another of London’s George dining establishments, the George Pub on Great Portland Street in Fitzrovia. And while the latter is also an historic and beautiful eighteenth-century pub, the two Georges in question are in fact very different.
