Not-so-arguably one of Montalcino’s top-10 best wineries, Col d’Orcia is an historic Montalcino estate that became so without necessarily having a long history to boast about. In other words, while the ancestor estate of Col d’Orcia does trace its roots deep into Montalcino history and lore, Col d’Orcia itself does not, having been founded only in 1973. But its contributions to the wines of Montalcino have been so many and so varied that the winery does deserve a place amidst the truly important estates that have deeply helped Montalcino and its wines become the world-respected entities they are today.
