Wine Bar Trimani in Rome

Trimani is the oldest wine cellar family of Rome. And I’m with Carla Trimani, one of the four siblings now running two enoteche (wine shops) and a wine bar in downtown Rome. Carla is in charge of the wine bar. The family first started selling wine in 1921 but not in the presant location because this quarter of Rome was not yet built. It was in the central core of the city, in Via di Panico. Then at the beginning of this last century the family started in the new venue for its wine shop business. Carla’s grand grandfather chose Via Goito because it was very close to the Termini station where the wine bar received visitors and tourists from Milano and Torino. It’s also very convenient for customers and for tourists to get off the train station and come right to the wine bar for a glass of wine, or lunch, or dinner, or to buy bottles at the shop next door.

Carla ‘s father Marco Trimani was one of Rome’s most famous wine people in the 60s and 70s when wine knowledge in Rome wasn’t that great. But Marco Trimani was one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected wine people in the city.

The wine shop carries many many wines. In winter, close to Christmas the wine shop has more than 5,000 different labels that are not just Italian wines but wines from the world, from Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, California, and Canada, plus also liqueurs, Whiskies and Grappa. And believe it or not from China too, they have some Chinese wines here like Silver Heights and a few others. So it’s really a great place if you want to drink wine and enjoy Italian traditional cuisine, especially so if you like to pair good wine with good food.

We just had a great dinner tonight at the Wine Bar Trimani. We had the Fonte Canale Trebbiano d’Abruzzo by Tiberio, one of Italy’s 20 best white wines. And the great thing about Wine Bar Trimani is this is actually a 2012 vintage. It’s the first vintage of Fonte Canale ever made. Clearly, it is not a wine you’re going to find in many places in Rome or anywhere else in Italy or the world gor that matter and yet the Wine Bar Trimani has it.

So the Trimani Wine Bar is just a great place for food, for wine. When you come in Rome, make sure you come to the Wine Bar Trimani and we look hopefully see you here, Ciao!
