Once in a while in my wine travels all over the world, I come across wineries that strike me as having noteworthy potential relative to the wines they produce. Some of these have the makings of future stars and if I were a betting man, I’d say that Le Ginestre is going to be among those stellar performers of the future.
Le Ginestre is a small winery located in the territory of Grinzane Cavour, one of only eleven communes of the Barolo denomination. Like most other local wineries, Le Ginestre produces most of the Langhe’s better-known wines, including a Dolcetto d’Alba and a Barbera d’Alba that are really excellent (the Dolcetto is especially exceptionally good), but has rapidly risen to the attention of those who like to swirl glasses because of the goodness of their Barolo and Barolo Riserva. Curiously enough, these last two wines are not made with grapes grown in a vineyard of the Grinzane territory but with those of the well-respected Sottocastello di Novello cru of the Novello commune.
