ADVANCED LEVEL 2 course
on Italian Wines
April 16, 17 and 18
Twice a year, our Academy runs a two-and-a-half-day course in Montalcino in collaboration with the Castiglion del Bosco winery that generously allows us the use of a classroom at their prestigious resort, as well as their Private Members Cellar for one of our two thematic dinners during the two and a half days.
Course program
April 15
17.30: Student pickup in Florence, at S. Maria Novella Train Station or direct student arrival at the Hotel Si’ in Montalcino.
April 16
9.30-12: Introduction to Italian grape varieties, genetics and terroirs
The wines of Northwest Italy
12-13.00: Lunch at Castiglion del Bosco staff cafeteria
13-16.30: The wines of Northeast Italy
17.30-late night: Aperitivo; Focus Seminar and Tasting: “Brunello Heights: The northwest sector of Montalcino and its wines” , followed by dinner with the producers of the invited wineries
April 17
9.30-12: The wines of Central Italy
12-13.00: Lunch at Castiglion del Bosco staff cafeteria
13-16.30: The wines of Southern Italy and the Islands
17.30-late night: Aperitivo and dinner in the Castiglion del Bosco Private Members Cellar in the company of Montalcino producers and a selection of Tuscan and Italian wines
April 18
10-11.30 Final Exam (fifty multiple choice questions)
12-14.00: Buffet lunch at Castiglion del Bosco and winery visit
14-16.30: Second winery visit
17.30: Departure for Florence
