Though with branches of Ruth’s Chris, Wolfgang’s, and other establishments that are even more popular with locals than those, Shanghai is certainly no stranger to high-level steakhouses. But is safe to say that Morton’s is currently offering a combination of steak, service and wine that is as good if not better than most such restaurants in the city. Shanghai boasts two Morton’s franchises: Morton’s the Steakhouse in Lujiazui, the business district of Shanghai (often referred to as its Wall Street) and the Morton Grille located in the upscale Raffles City Plaza indoor and outdoor mall. I had a wonderful dinner at the latter recently, and it confirmed how it is very much a case in point: it provides food and wine lovers with a noteworthy array of just as upscale premium beef cuts, a plethora of delicious sides, and an encyclopedic tome that masks as a wine list. No surprises there: after all, this is exactly what, and no less, sybarites all over the world have come to expect from this legendary Chicago steakhouse chain.
