Noble Rot Soho in London

I’ve dined many times over the years at the Noble Rot on Bloomsbury’s Lambs Conduit Street, and always had a good time, but my first visit at its younger sibling, the Noble Rot in Soho (the second Noble Rot to open, in September 2020), will go down in my personal history as the best time and the best meal I have ever had at this London chain of high-end wine and food joints (the third and youngest of the three Noble Rot dining establishments is to be found in Shepherds Market in Mayfair).

A brainchild of Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew, Noble Rot is a deservedly much-loved and even iconic London dining institution where food can range anywhere from average to great but the wines are always outstanding. The wine list is, indeed, the “stuff dreams are made of”, and that statement remains as true today as it was many, many years ago. And even if my heady days of buying Coche-Dury wines there at reasonable (read: affordable) prices are long gone (clearly through no fault of the restaurant, that’s just the way life goes), Noble Rot remains a bastion of marvelous wine buys, featuring a treasure-trove of well-cellared and affordable old Bordeaux and many other wine gems. Even better, mark ups are still low (as is the restaurant industry norm, this is especially true of the higher-priced wines) and the wines-by-the-glass selection large and varied.
