Step through Campamac’s entrance and you find yourself catapulted into a place that seems to be completely removed from anything you associate with Barbaresco. In fact, the subtitle of “Osteria Gourmet” to the restaurant’s name, is an apt description of what it’s all about: without doubt, Campamac is much more like a bistro located in Paris or NYC, than a restaurant in a slightly sleepy hamlet such as Barbaresco. Then again, that is one of Campamac’s very charms: it injects something completely new and different in what is the usual, replicable, trattoria-template of the Langhe.

Despite its interior’s look, Campamac serves very traditional Piedmontese food (with an emphasis on properly-sourced, well-aged steaks and finely matured cheeses) a nice juxtaposition with its very shiny, sleek, modern and elegant décor of which the open, bright, airy kitchen is a big part. However, the atmosphere at Campamac also offers patrons a certain amount of retro feel, partly because of the site’s past life as a large tavern and wine shop. Last but not least, the restaurant also doubles as a gourmet shop, such that all the foodstuffs you might munch on inside can be bought and taken home, or to your hotel room.
