Memory might fail me now, but I believe that Quadri, a famous restaurant in Venice, is currently living its best moment ever. It is part of the Alajmo restaurant empire (the flagship of which is the ultra-famous three-Michelin star Le Calandre restaurant in Rubano near Padova and previously reviewed here on the Ian D’Agata Wine Review on just a couple of weeks ago), and basks in the glory of its one-star rating and location overlooking one of the world’s most beautiful sights, Venice’s piazza San Marco. There are obvious links between Quadri and the other Alajmo restaurants: for example, the presence of two menus called Max and Raf, named after the Alajmo brothers Massimiliano and Raffaele. Quadri’s patrons can choose either one, or go the route of choosing individual dishes and create their own menu based on their taste preferences (which is what I almost always choose to do when at Quadri). There are also some dishes that have made their way from Quadri to Le Calandre, such as for example the outstanding cappuccino di laguna, but for the most part Quadri marches to the beat of its own drummer.
